Hake

Know your product

Merluccius merluccius or Hake is also called “Herring Hake.” It lives in seas and oceans, up to 1,000 meters deep. It measures between 30 cm and 1 meter long, and has a large mouth. Its elongated light gray body is unique. Hake is a lean fish, and a source of high quality proteins and vitamin B. Its flesh is white, delicate and firm, soft and fluffy, with no bones. It releases flavors similar to cod.

Our Hakes come from the salty waters of South Africa, the Mediterranean Sea, the North Sea and the Northeast Atlantic Ocean.

Our range also includes pinched Hakes, caught individually angled. They have a label pinched on their gills to guarantee their high quality and an even more subtle taste.

How to buy

It is very important for Hake to have its scales, and for its gills to be crimson red but not pink. Avoid any yellow splotches.

how to keep

Keep Hake in the fridge for 24 hours at most.

Tips

Hake’s flesh is fragile, so avoid cooking it too much, or it can get damaged.
