Whitebait

Know your product

Whitebait or Smelt is a small fish that ranges from 2.5–5 cm long. It lives in salty waters, however it goes upriver to spawn, therefore it is often wrongly considered as a freshwater fish. Its coat is silver, with green tints. It is eaten fried, and is really delicate and tender.
It is an excellent source of proteins, vitamins A and B, phosphorous, calcium, magnesium and other minerals.

We also supply in our range baby Whitebait, fried and frozen.

How to buy

Favor Whitebait with a stiff, shiny body and bulging eyes. Avoid pink gills and eyes that have sunken too much in their sockets.

how to keep

Keep fresh Whitebait in the fridge for up to 3 days, or in the freezer until the best before date.

Tips

The whole Whitebait can be eaten, included its skin, head and tail.
