Redcurrant is very rich in vitamin C, just as much as orange is. There are 2 varieties: the most popular — redcurrants in clusters, and gooseberries. Redcurrant is a very acidic fruit, and goes well with sugar.

How to buy

Ripe redcurrants are shiny and slightly translucent. They must be intact.

how to keep

Keep redcurrants in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for a few weeks.

Tips

You can collect redcurrants by sliding the stalk between your fingers, from the bottom to the top of the cluster. You can use redcurrants in pies or serve it plain with sugar and/or with cream. For enhanced flavors, eat frozen currants just before they are completely defrosted.
