Starfruit is very rich in vitamin C and polyphenols. It is also called “Carambola". Increasingly, it is being used in energy drinks and its popularity is soaring in Asia, especially in Japan where the starfruit is the basic food of the heroes in a well-known cartoon.

How to buy

Choose firm, bright, and undamaged fruit. Edges that are bit brown at the tip indicate a certain degree of ripeness.

how to keep

Cover the ripest starfruit and keep in the fridge for up to 2 days. You can help the least ripe to reach desired maturity by storing them at room temperature, until the skin is golden and the sides are slightly darker. A sweet smell is also a clear indicator.

Tips

Starfruit are really tasty when cut into slivers. You can use it as a side for dishes made with meat, as a starter, or in a salad.
