Mussels

Know your product

Mytilus or Mytella is commonly called Mussel. It’s formed out of two shells of black or dark blue color, and lives on rocks. It filters approx. 10 liters of water a day, and eats plankton this way. Mussels are appreciated in Europe, and are the typical dish of some regions, especially in French Brittany.
Mussels’ flesh is orange, with sides that are slightly indented and black. It’s tender, delicate and delicious.

Mussels are rich in vitamins A and B12, phosphorous, iron and zinc.

How to buy

Choose Mussels that are still living: their shell has to be well closed, or they must refold when you touch them. They also must release a pleasant smell.

how to keep

Keep Mussels in the fridge for a few days.

Tips

To open your Mussels’ shells further, put them in the microwave for 1 or 2 mins.
